When I showed up ready to tear down or build something it turned out it was a bunch of guys reading a book and trying to figure out life together. It was a little uncomfortable at first because I had never been involved in anything like that but after reading the book I realised there was something to be learned here.
Part of the book talked about accountability and the danger of not having accountability in your life. I did not think i needed an accountability partner however, if I did, my neighbour Ray Bachman would be a guy I could share with.
When we finished the book Ray called me and asked me if we could have breakfast. When we met, he told me that he prayed for one guy, just one guy out of the 16 who started, that would want to go deeper. Do the work. Be FAT. Faithful, Available, Teachable. He said, "I think you are that guy."
"I’m in"
After studying with Ray I joined several other men’s groups and after studying for several years, I felt it in my heart that I was supposed to go out and find someone to pour my faith into, start my own group. I looked but didn’t seem to find anyone so I stopped looking. Once I left it up to God, he sent three men to me each of them was looking for a group to join. I assured them that I would look for a group for them! It wasn’t until my friend Bill said “Duh, I think you’re supposed to start a group instead of finding one for those guys.”
“I’m In" MUC 2 was formed.
We began studying back in the very same clubhouse where Ray zeroed in on me several years prior. We did a lot of studying together and eventually landed on a study about spiritual gifts. That is when Rick Thompson realised that his spiritual gift might be too start something for young adults that are aging out of wheelchair sports with the YMCA.
